What is Dorset First Point?

Dorset First Point is a country wide support service that works across all tenures and households. The service is available 7 days a week including evenings.

We provide a Housing, Health and Well being support service.

Main Aims:

To work in partnership to reduce and prevent homelessness.
To provide flexible housing related support to vulnerable people aged 16 and over.
Reduce unwanted and unnecessary admissions to institutional care.
To reduce social exclusion.
To promote links into the community.
To support service users to meet their needs and aspirations towards living independently.

Who is eligible for support?

People who: Must have a housing issue

Are aged over 16 and have support needs
Are not already in receipt of housing support.
Are not coping in their current housing and are at risk of losing their homes.
Require support to take up a housing offer to set up and sustain their home.
Are moving on from supported housing or an institution (such as hospital, registered care or prison).

What types of support do we provide?

First Point staff will support service users to:

Claim welfare entitlements and maximise income.
Budget for rent and utility bills
Liaise with the landlords/mortgage companies over rent or mortgage arrears.
Make links within the local community and support networks and signpost to other agencies.
Maintain safety and security of the homes.
Move into new home.

How are referrals made to the service?

Referrals can be made by a referring agent. This includes Social Services, Housing Officers, Citizens Advice Bureau or Drug and Alcohol Services.

Self-Referrals can also be made by individuals seeking support.

Help and be sought at the First Point Drop ins which are located throughout Dorset.
